Joy and attention first thing in the morning.

Just to let you know, we are heading for Oviedo. Asturias has some superb churches and that is the reason.  First we go through some of the older bits of Aviles and into the neighbouring Las Vegas.



We start by heading passed Ferrera Park https://avilescomarca.info/que-hacer/casco-historico-de-aviles/parque-de-ferrera/  It is 81000m2 of green in the city centre. It had belonged to the Maruis de Ferrera but was opened to the public by Juan Carlos II in 1976.   To quote the website ;It is divided into two clearly differentiated parts: the "English-style" park and the "French Garden". The first combines open spaces of meadows, a pond and wooded areas with centuries-old specimens of yews, cedars, pines, oaks, birches, chestnuts, etc. The second has all the elements that define a palatial garden: trees, pergolas, fountains and unique boxwood layouts forming the flowerbeds.'

La Celtica Cafe Bar will be our edge of town stay.  A month ago Ben was impressed. ‘They have an excellent coffee, a good place to have breakfast and on the weekends they have exquisite burgers with meat prepared by them and super delicious homemade potatoes, as well as dogs that are different from the normal ones and some XL sandwiches.’




The River Arlos makes the border between great Aviles and La Vega.   Near the end of our trot we pass the Teatro Llar Corvera.   Agencia Inmobiliaria Rivero have it five stars.  ;’Highly recommended, the play La Familia was very good and entertaining, and the theater was cozy, congratulations’

We cross the Rio Porma and into Villarente and Puente Villarente.   Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
