Bibliographic references and reliable oral communications
One of the many things I like about Spain is the tendency to honour people who need honouring in their street names, be they Spaniard or no. We are in Paseo Doctor Fleming and why not.
We are leaving the Rio Piles [a search for Rio Piles gets medical real fast] There is a 19km walking route so if you wish you can enjoy its greeness, https://www.gijon.es/es/turismo/senda-fluvial-del-piles Wiki is unsure if the river is 10 or 15km long. The Google translate informs us ‘According to electric fishing samples carried out between 1997 and 2019, bibliographic references and reliable oral communications, specimens of eel , corcón and plaice have been detected in the Piles River’
Time for a quick coffee or cider. The Sidreria La Tonada de la Guia is not cheap but the website has nice pictures. https://latonadadelaguia.es/ Googles top recommended review was made a year ago, by Kay. They said ‘Cozy little restaurant with very nice waiters and excellent food - whether small or large - simply delicious. Once i had fresh fish - which was delicious. Also I've tried the traditional cachopo - which was huge but it was buttery tender and simply delicious. The shrimp were also excellent. ... For dessert, I can absolutely recommend grandma's cake.’
We are going inland and will travel through the urbanications and on to the countryside. Let us pause at the Jardin de Infancia Donald - mostly for the name and that thye seem to have found out what to do with a grand suburban villa. https://jardindeinfanciadonald.com/ Miel wrote two months ago ‘It was a great success to send my baby to this school, you can see the absolute vocation of all the teachers! My son is delighted and I am even more so.’ Silvia wrote three years ago ‘I didn't like putting on the cap and cape for graduation’ As ever, we recommend you try rather than take a reviewer’s word for it so please have some children and send them here.
On the way out of town we will pass the Palacetes de la Fundación Museo Evaristo Valle. It is dedicated to the artist Evaristo Valle, who died in 1981. Raul the only reviewer said ‘Very beautiful mansions that make up, together with the gardens that complete the environment, the museum space of the Evaristo Valle Museum Foundation. The site has two buildings, one built in 1971 and used expressly as a museum, and an old palace from the 19th century, remodeled in 1942 and later adapted for the exhibition. The beauty of the buildings matches perfectly with the gardens in which they are integrated.’ https://evaristovalle.com/
Full of art, sopa de Marisco and with the knowledge the kids are being looked after let us leave Gijon behind and embrace the foothills, as we climb 92m to day’s end.
