At the commercial centre
Rarely do we just hang around and look at all the shops in an area. We have come to a cross roads and will gaze at what joys we have to explore.
Almacenes Rio de Oro SL is one of those hardware shops every smallholder, country dweller and chap of any flavour may wish to hang around at and look at the lovely bits of bent metal. Spain does this a lot. I bought a mattock blade in the middle of Barcelona once. This is the type of place which people don’t tend to review and when they do they say very little. Two years ago Joe said ‘Very friendly staff. To put it another way, access for articulated trucks is a bit complicated. But the staff helps you with everything you need to get in or out.’
Across the road is the Parrilla Cantabrico. It is open Wednesday to Sunday, usually from 9 till 5 but 8-11 on Friday to Sunday. Five days ago Raul wrote ‘Very aithentic please with good food and nice staff!’ Yesterday Alfonso said ‘Great homemade food, the premium steak was spectacular, and the attention of the waitresses and the boss was a 10, thank you for everything.’ It averages 4.8 stars. I looked at the one star review. It seemed out of keeping with the rest of the reviews so I will only print the reply. ‘Good morning, to make an accusation like that you would have to provide a credible explanation for what you ate. If you have been in the restaurant, please notify our staff. ‘
On the otherside of the AS-256 is what is called a supermarket - let's say a corner shop. It sells alcohol, if the picture is to be believed, and other stuff. It is woman owned and scores 4,5 from 74 reviews. Arcenoyu said ‘Supermarket open every morning, except Wednesday. Lovely people and we recommend the bread, the fries and vegetables and the empanadas on Fridays, impressive! Fantastic place to buy your daily essentials’ The lowest review with a reason to justify its three stars is from Javier who said ‘Very good will but little offer for tourists who visit the area’
We will end with a visit to the bus stop. It has no reviews . A bus goes to Gijon every couple of hours. The earliest is 6.30am, the latest 10.15pm.
Tomorrow, more hills.
