Three stars for kindness

 We will wind about a bit today, following the old road as it dodges up vallies to find the most suitable place to cross the deeper flowing rivers.  At one point we will see the railway bridge and newish motorway high above attempting to find the straight and narrow.  We will hit a bit of flat land and suddenly find that we have houses, hotels and bars to delight and detain us. Pension Prada is one such.


The website will, obviously, show you the place.  https://www.alojamientosprada.info/  The building is a restored 1920s Indianos place on the slightly modest scale. A room will cost you about £46 - although they have apartments as well.  234 people average it at 4.3/  A week ago Warren Gray said of it  ‘Fantastic place where warmness and kindness of staff and owner(s) makes all the difference.  Very genuine people who enjoy taking care of others.  Loved it.’  He also recommended the nearby beach.  Mi said at the same time ‘Great, this place in Santa Marina!! Super sweet welcome from the hostess. The pilgrim meal was great! The area is truly beautiful, close to the coast. We had a room with shared bathroom.’

The Pension Bar Gayo opens at 8am.  Mikka Luster didn’t like it.  He is very binary.  ‘There are two kinds of people: those who sell a can of coke for two bucks or so to a thirsty pilgrim, and those to whom the concha and pilgrims are just a way to make a quick buck. 2.20 for a 237 ml glass bottle of Coke Zero is a-hole behavior. You don’t deserve the concha on your awning.’  If you find that a bit judgy two weeks ago JMC said ‘At the time we went to have a drink after a route there were not many people. The owner is very friendly and conversational.’  Domingo is somewhere in between.  His three stars was accompanied by This review is to inform you that they only have food for people staying at the pension. The three stars refer to the kindness of the man who informed us.’  





Time to move on.  You will glad to know the railway bridge we see is the Viaducto de Candnao.  It is near Santa Marina station. It has a single 5 star review.  Jose said ‘Impressive landscape’   The motorway bridge is yet to be reviewed.

Mini Pieces of Supposed tuna

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
