The Evolution of the Bottle

 It is a wandering day. Round and round we go through back lanes and footpaths as well as roads. Lamuno is a village of 214 people and, according to the wiki translation, has one ‘Illustrious sons.’  Avelino González Fernández was born in Lamuño in 1893 and died in Gijón in1978) was a paediatrician who coordinated and promoted child care in Gijón for over 40 years.  He was a pioneer of vaccination.




We are quiet near La Fuente de la Galana- a holiday rental.  Mabi said of it ‘We loved being there. We have been in one of the small apartments, we are a family with a baby, they have a crib available, and a 3-year-old child, so we have used the sofa bed which is very comfortable. The house was super clean and they even gave us a tablet for the washing machine which is appreciated. The exterior is ideal because it has great views and there is no road so you can leave it open for the children to come and go without problem. The district has a bar where you can eat divinely and at a good price a minute walk away and with a playground next door. Ideal for families. Around it, leisure of all kinds just a few kilometers away... Beach, caves, palaces, picturesque towns, waterfalls... And the truth is that we have hardly seen any tourists, everything is quite quiet and even more so considering that it is July. Of course...on Sundays the area is full of Sunday people and for that day it is better to leave the beaches aside.  A 10. We will return.’






Now, we look for the best but five years ago Jorge, who hadn’t realised this was an apartment in the owner’s house was a unimpressed.



We have had a disastrous experience in this rural house. To begin with, they offer it as a full rental but what they don't say is that the owners live wall to wall and there is another apartment below, therefore you have zero privacy. Second, the owner (Jorge) came into the house like a madman, insulting us at midnight because we were, according to him, "making a lot of noise" when we were playing trivia. He also said that the family who was in the apartment had complained but it was a lie because we asked them the next morning and they hadn't heard anything. The house also came without salt, oil or even a sad lighter to light the barbecue in the garden, which by the way lacked any lighting. In the end we spent only one night of the two we had planned and we left with a feeling of bitterness. Of course, if you are looking for privacy and enjoying the house, don't come to the galana fountain.

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park.
