More and More
We start the day in one of those ‘how many transport routes can we fit in the available space’ parts of Spain. The N-632 and N-632a will become kissing cousins. The single track railway will hold us close. The new A-8 isn’t that far away.
Let us went to the Bar Restaurante Casa Fernando II. It costs £51 for a room for two. It gets 4.3 stars from over 1300 reviews. The hotel was built in 1985 but renovated in 1995. https://www.casafernando2.com/ Eneko obviously takes the job of reviewing seriously. They have done 194 reviews in all and including almost 700 photos. Four days ago they wrote:
We were on our way to Galicia and our stomachs were already asking for food, but at the same time we didn't want to deviate too much from the road... And without knowing it, we found this hotel-restaurant. As soon as we arrived, at first they told us that we had to wait, but a minute later the girl asked us if we didn't mind eating at the cafeteria tables... And there we stayed, at a cafeteria table away from the bar and bustle. It was Saturday, they had a menu of 22, it's true that I wanted to spend a little less... but when hunger strikes... Of course, the 22€ was well paid.
First of all, I don't remember everything there was, I know that there was seafood paellas (which is what my daughter, wife and I ordered), fish soup, a salad with goat cheese and something else.
For the second, cachopo, bonito with tomatoes and other things that I don't remember. Woman and daughter caught cachopo, menda bonito.
The little one, her children's menu, loin with potatoes and croquettes.
Let's start talking about what we ate.
I tried my daughter's croquettes... It's been a long time since I've had croquettes so delicious, soft, with flavor... tremendous. The loin, fresh, also had a lot of flavor and the homemade potatoes were very delicious.
The paella, they brought out a paella pan for the 3 of them where their prawns or large prawns came (menda doesn't like seafood and has a hard time recognizing it), two crabs (well I guess it would be something that looks like crabs), mojojones... The paella without further ado, you could eat it but nothing special in flavour.
My tuna with tomato, very delicious, the tomato was not very sweet and did not take away the flavour of the tuna. The bonito had flavour and was not dry at all... Very delicious, I would have eaten 2 more pieces, as I enjoyed it.
My wife and daughter's cachopo was delicious...
Desserts, I ordered a flan (I had to drive, I didn't want to eat much, even though it was late), my wife had a cheesecake and my oldest daughter had a chocolate cake. The homemade flan was very delicious, as was the cheesecake. The cake was different, it was a lighter chocolate with cookies in the middle...those cookies gave it a very rich and special touch.
Conclusion we ate very well, very delicious, better than I expected, and large quantities. It's worth it, especially if you're on the highway, it takes 4 minutes from the start and you get back in another 4 minutes. The only thing that doesn't let you grab half a menu.
And now to Masymas. I think, all things considered, this is my favourite supermarket. Is it the fish counter? Is it the meat counter? Is it the bakery? Maybe. Mostly it is the view. Apart from the joy of the Spanish supermarket -oooh, the beans are slightly different, ah, they have that! - the view towards the sea is splendid and makes buying leche an extra joy.
Brahim Barceloan gave a mere one star ‘I bought fish, but there was parsley for sale, but in the meat sample I asked for some. He told me straight away that they don't have any left. I asked others and they sent me to the butcher shop. But as far as I know, parsley almost always goes with meat dishes. fish...bad treatment from the butcher shop’ I really think they ought to look at the big picture.
Julia has the vibe. ‘Clean with spacious aisles and a good selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. Their meat counter is supposed to be very good because the chain breed their own cattle. The staff are friendly and helpful. Particularly today when I needed help at the checkout because I've hurt my hand. Very much appreciated! The car park is well laid out and the supermarket is located close to a motorway exit and a petrol station.’
It does seem to be a place that motor-homes come to stay.
We end the day near the Hotel La Caona de Lupa en Cudillero. It costs £63 for a two bed -room stay. Pedro seems to have an odd view of the star syste, Four stars for ‘No wifi in the room . Phone in room did not work . Location is ok . Thin walls you can hear baby crying at night ! Bad sleep 💤! Breakfast ok. Not a come back choice ! …’. For an extra star Josefina said ‘An ideal place, beautiful facilities, tastefully decorated, spectacular landscape, cleanliness, comfort, a very complete breakfast and the best of all, the kindness of all the staff, I totally recommend it’
Time to start to climb again before we head to the sea.
