Great Concrete Moments
We are going for a wander. The reason is we are going to one of those no longer needed bits of infrastructure which are worth a look. As we are following the same way twice we need two maps to show this.
Let's go to a supermarket. Well, let's go to a corner shop which has fresh bread and a Coviran sign. It opens from 8 till 2 and 5-8 on Weekdays and 9-2 on Sundays. Recent reviews have not been happy. Two weeks ago Maria said ‘Not expensive, the following. It is one thing to compete with large supermarkets and another to inflate prices by TAKING ADVANTAGE of customers. A shame!’ Miguel said at the same time ‘Exorbitant prices. A lettuce salad 2.75. A one euro body gel priced at 2.75. Do not buy in this store even if you have a specific need.’
A month ago Tony was happier ‘A store - bar, where you can find a little of almost everything for your daily purchase, have a coffee on its terrace and, above all, feel at home due to the cordial, familiar and loving treatment of its owners. It also offers an exhibition of artisan products made by the property (pastries, cookies, enfilades, empanadas, preñaos buns...). They also display typical Asturian products for sale. Menu with a variety of breakfasts. Long hours, even on weekends. They make different specialties to order. You can order chickens, ribs, Creoles...they are prepared in the oven and are very tasty. It has a small parking lot.’
We are heading out across the fields, passed a decent sized farm and a smattering of houses and down through the woods to a sudden factory. These Google images are from 2014. The tunnel is closed. In 2022 it was open. The works seems to have been a processing unit for shellfish. Several factories now lurk near the motorway. The tunnel takes you out to the former port. It has huge and solid concrete wharfs, abandoned huts and a great steel net to catch the falling boulders the place has much of. They don’t really encourage swimming. It is an odd intrusion into a isolated cove.
Time to head back, cutting through the back lanes and onto the main road out of Ovinana.
