The nicest and most cheerful waitress possible.’

We are heading for Vegadeo and Austrias - of which, more later. It sits at the foot of the rias and has made a bit of a living as the first convenient non-boaty crossing.  For that reason Prehistoric people hung around here and built a couple of burial mounds. Various people have come and goe and generally owned the place and in the 18th century it got a bit porty and industrial.  Apparently locals were hot against Napoleon’s beastly occupiers and it became a place weapons were made.  The population has drifted down from 7400 to 6500 in 1910, inched up and then drifted down from 1950 to the present 4000 today.  Some migrated abroad, some to the cities of Spain.  It has always been a socialist area, Today it has 5 Socialists, 4 conservatives [and a Asturian breakaway conservative] and a Communist / United Left councillor.

I feel, as we are in Asturias we better pop into the Bar Restaurante Asturias.  I liked its intro so here it is:

Since 1936, it has been a reference for its neighbors, for visitors from nearby regions, and for driving professionals, travelers, hikers and various people who, while traveling from Galicia to Asturias and vice versa, knew that in Vegadeo they could enjoy a delicious snack. or a coffee repairman. Our hallmark is the traditional homemade cuisine of the area, where tasty lentils, a good broth, extraordinary stews, traditional stew, a good fabada or a good cachopo become a delight for the most demanding palates. Just as barnacles were in their day, today one of our main protagonists are tripe, always on time every Saturday, to taste as an aperitif, take a portion or to take home and enjoy with the family. Enjoy the best traditional food in our indoor dining room, in our cafeteria area or on our covered outdoor terrace. Also available to take home.  https://barrestauranteasturias.com/

The reviews are generally positive.  Nadine reckoned ‘A different local stew every day - home made and absolutely delicious - free sample with just about every beer! Very cheap - excellent value. Small, friendly, local bar.’   Four days ago Montessa said ‘Spectacular value for money. Abundant, abundant. The nicest and most cheerful waitress possible.’

Rarely do we get to visit government buildings but the Registrar General is waiting for us and has had 22 reviews for an average 4.  Airsoft Fils were thinking only of the architecture.  ;A simple building composed of semicircular arches, the typical clock in its upper part centered, with a sculpture in front.

Nothing to highlight unlike many other town halls.’  Daniel had other thinks on his mind.  ‘It is incredible to have a party in Vegadeo and not have a taxi available or a bus that is safe for those coming from the towns to be gray to the town. Seeing people and people waiting and even on top of that the taxi driver who is from vegadeo asks how many people he is carrying if there are 4 with a space of 5 he doesn't carry what hurts the mayor. More careful’

Sometimes you just hit a steam of unhappiness. Cristina said ‘I have been on vacation since August 13 and I am seriously thinking about leaving here because it is not normal for musical orchestras to be there until 5 in the morning every night. It's unbearable and I was just looking for a quiet town. For me it is an inadvisable town to go on vacation.’ Javier was kinder ‘The tourist office was closed and they assisted us at the town hall office, very kindly giving us information about the area.’

And with that, we will push on.
