Hake is a cylindrical fish,

Yes, it is another day of wandering along a road with so many cafes and shops that I don’t know where to begin, especially after the sparse hills of the last couple of weeks however I feel the need for change. Given that we will soon leave Galacia I thought it was time to look up famous Galacians and found Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez (born August 3, 1940), known professionally as Martin Sheen, was on that list. Given he was born in Dayton, Ohio, I hear you say, why is he here? Well, his dad was a Galacian.  I know, pushing it a bit, so, randomly from the wiki long list, let us talk about Concepcion Arenal.

María de la Concepción Jesusa Luisa Petra Vicenta del Arenal y Ponte was born in 1820 in Ferrol.  Her father, Ángel del Arenal y de la Cuesta, was a liberal military officer who was often imprisoned for his opposition to the regime of Ferdinand VII who wasn’t keen on liberals and liberalism. He fell ill in prison and died in 1829, when Concepción was aged 9. She moved to Armaño (Cantabria) with her mother, María Concepción Ponte Mandiá Tenreiro, and then to Madrid in 1834, to attend the school of the Count of Tepa. Against her mother's wishes in 1841 she went to Law School at the Central University becoming the first woman in Spain to attend University, where she was wiki says ‘forced to wear masculine attire.’

Concepcion married liberal lawyer Fernando Garcia Carrasco and worked with him on a liberal newspaper until he died in 1859.  Penniless she was forced to sell all her possessions in Armaño and moved into the house of violinist and composer Jesús de Monasterio in Potes, Cantabria, where in 1859 she founded the feminist group Conference of Saint Vincent de Paul in order to help the poor. Two years later the Academy of Moral Sciences and Politics awarded her a prize for her work La beneficencia, la filantropía y la caridad [Beneficence, philanthropy and charity]. It was the first time the Academy gave the prize to a woman,

In later years she published poetry books and essays such as Cartas á los Delincuentes [Letters to delinquents] (1865), “Ode against slavery” (1866), El reo, el pueblo y el verdugo, o, La ejecución pública de la pena de muerte [Convicts, the people and the executioner, or, The execution of the death sentence] (1867). In 1868 she was named Inspector of Women's Correctional Houses,  Her first work about women's rights was La Mujer del Porvenir [The woman of the future] (1869) where she critics the theories defending the inferiority of women based on biological reasons.  In 1871 began fourteen years of collaboration with the Madrid-based magazine The Voice of Charity.  In 1872 she founded the Construction Beneficiary, a society dedicated to building cheap houses for workers. She also worked with the Red Cross helping the injured of the Carlist War, working in a hospital in Miranda de Ebro, later being named Secretary General of the Red Cross between 1871 and 1872.[In 1877. she published Penitentiary Studies.

Concepción Arenal died the morning of 4th February 1893 of chronic bronchitis in Vigo, where she was buried a day later. Her epitaph is her personal motto: "To virtue, to life, to science."

Back to the road.  The Clun Ribadeo is an agricultural cooperative which scores 4.2 stars from over 500 reviews.  https://clun.es/   Yordan said, five months ago, ‘Excellent place and many agricultural, car and other utensils, the attention of the girls at the checkout is very good, they have free parking’.  Tere, somewhat enigmatically said  ‘I went to dry the clothes and fatally twice 20 minutes and the clothes were wet’ - possibly it works better in the Spanish ‘Fui secar la ropa y fatal dos veces 20 minutos y la ropa mojada.

Onwards to O Lar De Carmina.  We can get a bit of a view of the sea en route.  O Lar is a cafe come hotel.  https://olardecarmina.com/  The website has lots of foodie pictures.  Google tells us it identifies as women-owned and is LGBTQ+ friendly.   It gets 4.1 from almost 4000 reviews.    In the last month both Javi and Margot reckon they had eaten the best squid ever.   It does have one of the best replies to a critical review ever.

Patricia Santos said ‘Too expensive for the quality and quantity. We ate an octopus and clam feijoada, a fair amount for 1 person, which was reasonable but for which we paid 20 euros. Grilled sea bass was suggested as a second course but they brought us hake instead. The dessert also fell short of our expectations. We feel deceived and do not recommend the experience. However, the restaurant has a good parking lot. It's close to the beach, the staff is friendly and the zamburinas were good, and at a fair price.’

Good morning Patricia, we respond to you in order to clarify certain conditions of your review:

1. The menu shows portions per diner, that is, for one person. What you can't expect is to eat two people from a portion and then complain that it was "fair." Likewise, the price is stated on the menu.

2. Hake and sea bass, despite both being nutritionally white fish, morphologically they establish a difference at first glance, hake is a cylindrical fish, that is, it maintains a round shape, sea bass is a fusiform fish, that is, flattened. on the sides, it is easily seen at the time of consumption, if you do not know how to differentiate them, refrain from commenting without logic, because in no case is the customer deceived and their distinction is visually clear

3. We continue to point out that the prices are established clearly and concisely in the menu, if you cannot afford certain drinks, advocate for others that best suit your possibilities.

And so we move on.
