A land of plenty

Yes, a garden centre.  Cabaleiros is not just a garden centre but a 4.7 star over 86 reviews garden centre.  Oscar was impressed but felt they needed some help with presentation.  ‘A fairly large nursery with a great variety of both ornamental plants and trees, as well as cuttings for the garden, at a very reasonable price. I would recommend that they take more care of the appearance of the nursery since there were quite a few plants and trees lying around that spoiled the place.’  A month ago Antonio reckoned ‘Very attentive and friendly. They guided us very well to choose the best option. They have a lot of variety at a very good price.’


Vilamar is long and generally clustered around the road.  The Vasa Xunqueira is a 7am to 1am sort of place - not Saturdays though, closes at 3pm.  Jose sums it up as follows. ‘To take a break on the road, a good coffee, with a free sweet skewer, with the attention of the house, where you can read the daily newspapers, buy tobacco and a lottery ticket that wins many times.’  Alvan added ‘An old-fashioned bar where the breakfasts are great, whether it's the chocolate croisants or the homemade cake’

  Pina de Ebro has something for everyone who enjoys the architecture of Spanish pueblos.  It has the tiny lanes, on which houses have been rebuilt for generations without a care for the needs of the modern motorist.  We have the pathways which have been tiled over but once were dirt tracks.  We have the modern suburban developments of low rise houses and 80s hopefully aspiring shacks.  First all, however, we have a park. One thing we noticed, especially with a small boy in tow, was the number of parks with interesting play equipment.  This is because, in Spain, people seem to like children.  This does make them a semi-public property and people feel free to indulge them with sweetmeats and pass comments. ‘I think sucking thumbs makes children look ugly’ said one elderly woman.’ My Spanish for ‘well desiccated prune face, no one asked you’ deserted me.  The play equipment is in the Plaza Pilarin Artigas.  Honestly I’ve looked and was giving u...
