Reentering a Streetview World

We reenter the world of the streetview, mostly, today. Once more the back lanes and little byways are revealed to us. Mostly though, we get to see the church of San Simon da Coasta in all its nailed to the ground, not being shifted, splendidness. It has solid walls, small windows and a bell tower that was added once the players had leveled up and had a bit of cash.  I really think there should be a version of SIMs where you get to build your church up - with occasional random iconoclasm.

According to Juan J Villalba ‘Church built between 1802 and 1804 imitating the old models of the 18th century. XVII of the Valle del Landro region, which replaces the old church located in the same place. Made of slate and granite brickwork, with reinforcements of granite ashlar openings and corners, and a gabled slate roof in the naves, four in the presbytery and three in the sacristy added to the head. With three naves separated by pillars and arches. Wide and robust buttresses on the right side wall, to prevent the temple from collapsing. Main façade with a wide lintel door, quadrangular window and triangular pediment, next to which is placed the beautiful two-section bell tower, with a balustrade and bulbous dome, with a lintel side door. Interior: main altarpiece from the second half of the 19th century. XVIII, from the church before the current one, two neoclassical side altarpieces, with several interesting carvings, and several old confessionals. Old parish cemetery in front of the church.

From the center of Vilalba we take the road in the direction of Lanzós-Costa-Viveiró, and after 8.2 km we take a detour to the right signposted towards the Church of San Simón da Costa. 3.5 km away is the Parish Church of S. Simón on the right side of the road.  A true gem of rural religiosity’

Jose Puentes the parish existed since the 12th century.  The only other feature of today is the Escola Habanera de San Simon.  I am struggling to find anything else out about it.

The village has a web existence.  https://www.vilalba.gal/es/parroquias/san-simon-da-costa/  Alas, we missed the feast of St Isidore - on 15th May. so better keep going.
