The best review in Galacia

The road goes on and to be honest, it is going to become less roadlike and more lane-like as we go on. We aren’t nipping down to Saint Mary’s, Castelo - it is a white-washed blocky structure with a few bells stuck on top. To be honest I feel JA VI VI is going a bit far when they say ‘For me the most beautiful church in the world.’ Nemio reckons ‘Church with a good belfry’ and we can’t quibble.

Where the road turns lane we find the Bar Castelo. There was a joke about if you passed a Gallegan on the stairs you would never know if they were going up or down. This is meant to reflect the somewhat non-committal approach of the locals to life. They live up to this in part by not supporting their views on this bar with words. Jorge gave it star - he wrote in Portuguese but had clearly gone native when it came to writing. The owner replied ‘Thank you for your review, if you happen to stop by here one day you could see if your opinion changes. I greet you’

We are out among the maize fields. Fernandez de Oviedo published a History of the Indies in 1526 and devoted a whole chapter to the topic. The first reference to maize bread in Spain goes back to 1505. By 1630 it was well on the way to replacing millet, Today, Spain grows more GMO maize than any other European country.
