Missing tunnels

We are going for a walk in the woods. Well, we are turning along a wooded road by one of those small, unededged fields that northern Spain does so well. We are missing out on the route along the old railway - the intriguingly named Via Muerte, because Google didn’t make it an object for study. This is a shame as some of it goes through long tunnels and all the reviews say ‘take a flashlight.; Almudena said ‘We passed by there after seeing some photos because it seemed like a curious place to us, but at the beginning of the tunnel we saw strange things and you can tell me that I'm scared, but we left because we don't like these things at all... people had left bracelets, bracelets, necklaces and offering-type things at the entrance, on one side of the floor. Every one there, I don't usually believe in these moves but it has given me a bad feeling.’

Yoga, Love and Spirituality [this does feel a bit of a 17th Century Puritan name] adds a warning ‘Old abandoned train track. Solitary route with a very long tunnel that gives the route a special touch. Walking through the tunnel almost in the dark is a very powerful experience. Be careful, Google's access instructions are not correct. It can be accessed from the vicinity of Boedo or by a small path near the Vista Alegre slaughterhouse.’

We are near Boedo, not the working class area of Buenos Aires, but a small village which hardly troubles the internet. I has a centro social de Boebo. It gets two reviews, a four stars for a ‘Cozy, very kind teacher’ and a three stars with no comment. What Boedo now has is a huge viaduct for the new railway.

The rail service from Santiago to Courna takes about 32 minutes to do the 55km. 41 trains do this, starting at 5.08am, the last train being 10.10pm. Tickets start from £4. There is not a lot else to say so enjoy the view.
