Beyond the Saint
We start with the day with a wander along the river and then duck under the railway and go up into Oroso. The river marks the northern boundary of the Compostela city state. The village has Neolithic remains as well as a Roman villa or two. King Alfonso VII gave the place to the Bishop of Compostela. A bridge was built in the 14th century and we will use its successor. Oroso bumbled along with about 3000 people till 1910, rose to 4500 by 1960, fell back a bit but started to grow to the present 7500 after 1990. Today the dairy farming populace are ageing and in decline. The commuters to Compostela are on the rise.
Crossing the river we pass near the O Trazo De Larano SL off licence. It has one review. SM gives it one star and no reason. SM tends to be a bit of a 5 or 1 reviewer. Later we slip past Panadería O´forno de Manolo - a wholesale bakery. It gets an average of 4.8 stars. Only Ascensio Madrid Liste gave a reason ‘Good product, very high quality and pampers the product, very pleasant treatment, what more could you ask for?’
That's it, enjoy the view. The XG894992 bus will pass us buy. It is most used either side of midday but we won’t be needing it.
