Roman Remains and Reluctant Consumers
The number of pilgrims is certainly increasing, as are the bars offering respite for the weary traveller. We haven’t done a museum recently so lets nip off the way to see the O Castro Der Castromaior old Musuem. The castro is an Iron Age fortified settlement made with solid walls. It was inhabited between the 4th and 1st century BC - before the Romans turned up and ended all that sort of thing. The place was dug by archaeologists between 2006 and 2010 and you can dig it now. Trip advisor Castro All that being said, the concrete open air visitor centre / walls to hang panels on jas not impressed. Josean Espido gave it four stars. ‘The construction is next to the Camino de Santiago. The 8 information panels describe the fort very well but instead of being called a museum, the place had to be called an "abandoned house" with a very dirty state of conservation. O Hospital is where the N-540 meets the Lu-633 and with it two bars, two hostels and a Zone of Rest. I think somewhere called the House of the Tortilla needs investigating. 4 reviews, 4-8 stars is a bit of a lure. Alas, no one has said why. The Bar taberna do Camino only gets 3.8 stars. Magda said four months ago - 5 Stars ‘The best tortilla! wow! Huge slice and with vegetables so a bit different then the usual one! A lot of space to sit and very nice service! Great coffee as well! It’s a great stop on the way for a lunch! Honestly if you gave a bad review to this place means you are flustered, tired traveler! I loved it!’ This may be a reaction to Ana Perez’s 1 star six months ago ‘The person who attends the bar is friendly, but the unpresentable one who cleans the tables, because he only does that, is rude and rude. As soon as you sit on the stone benches that delimit the bar, he appears with bad manners, telling you that to sit down you have to consume. If he dedicated himself to helping the colleague who was at the bar and had it full, they would be better off.’
We will end the day at the Albergue O cruceiro in Ventas de Naron. Albergue de peregrinos O Cruceiro, Ventas de Narón (Portomarín) – Camino de Santiago Francés Nicole liked it ‘We stopped to eat. When you are on the Camino, you want good service, good food and a good price. This site more than fulfills it. Thank you so much.’
