The Gold of Rome and other earthly diversions
We are about two months away from the shrine to St James. Slowly we are heading towards the Leonese border. The road is speckled with sudden large buildings. In the case of Muebles, it is a closed enterprise. In the case of Hostal Nuevo Lugar it is a 3.6 star hotel. It has to be said the reviews are spare. Those in the last year are ⅘ stars but a bit scanty on details. 4 years ago and earlier it really was not a loved place. ‘Bland and stale’ was one comment.
We are nipping down the back tracks - which have been mostly viewed which is a surprise. We are among the fruit trees. To be honest, this is not what Castile y Leon is most famous for but we are heading towards the green lands of the north and west. Information on this is scarce to the layman so we will pass on.
At the end of the day we end at the highly rated Museo Munic Carracedelo. http://munic.carracedelo.org/ In 2022 the exhibitions were based on the issue of climate change. Last year it was all about story telling. All six reviews in the last month have been very positive and one five weeks ago said
‘I have been to every exhibition since the museum opened, all very well done and with very interesting themes. This latest classic tale is wonderful. You can see the passion and pleasure in doing your job well. I recommend browsing the book section of the museum store, they have exceptional prices, as well as other ideal things. They also have workshops available for the little ones. The lovely staff, both Angela and Silvia, the museum director. If you are in El Bierzo it is a must visit’
On the site is the ‘Gold of Rome’ events company. It is apparently LGBTQ+ friendly. Kiren Patel reckoned it is ‘Best wedding venue ever, had good food and a good time’. The most recent review is less kind.
