Santa Marta the undescribed

We seem to be going uphill in a gentle way. Do not be fooled by this. I was once. We had crossed the Pyrenees with members of the International Brigade Memorial Trust to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Start of the Spanish Civil War. This sounds more impressive than the walk was. Till lunchtime. We did not know in the late afternoon we would have a long, not very steep, but very long walk. The second beer was a mistake. I will include a photo.

Well, we are following the route passed Santa Marta. The modern road bypasses a set of small hamlets of which Santa Marta is the first. I include the Spanish and English wiki pages listing Santa Martas. For brevity, the Spanish one only has ones in Spain. Our Santa Marta has escaped the notice of the Spanish writers. I’ve taken a picture of the Galician one. It hardly seems worth it. The next, O Pico, does little better. It announces it has three houses.

Of note in O Pico is the Albergue Granxa Escola de Barreiros. https://granxadebarreiros.com/
It offers training courses and has a rather splendid organic garden. Not many reviews in recent years but generally high scoring - or 1. Neither of the one star reviews say why so might be noise in the data so I will leave you with Joerg’s from 4 years ago.
It was a day with heavy rain when we arrived at the hostel in hope to get something to eat. Although there was no cook today the hosts let us in and offered us a vegetable soup, tea, fruits and a brownie for our child. The soup was delicious from their own garden. They were very kind and helped us in several ways. The price for the meal was surprisingly low. At the end they personally showed us the way out to their bridge crossing the road. Wonderful people making this a great stay.

That really is it for today. Enjoy the scenery. We go up and down about 100m today. There is a bus. The XG637001 leaves for Hospital Hula at 9.04, 2.34pm and 5.49pm and Sarria at 11.41 and 1.41pm.
