Ponfria: land of gastrostomy
This is one of those days when we are going to potter through the countryside, admiring the high pasture and the way away from the concerns of the everyday. Talking about that, the Local parliament has [as of 2020] got 42 Popular Party Conservatives,19 Galician nationalists and 14 PSOE socialists.
We are going to Ponfria. Ponfria really only seems to exist for the needs of others. Let us first go to the Casa Galego Alojamiento. Two people can book in for 47 euros. 158 people gave it an average of 4.9 stars. Tiffany Vogel was clearly impressed last November
‘Wow! The best place along the whole camino whether you stop overnight or just for lunch. This is a family run business and a great example of supporting a changing local economy in Spain (they used to be ranchers for generations on this land and have now built and operate this beautiful auberge on the same land since 2022). Food was fresh and healthy and the building was perfectly built for the pilgrim centric experience (Scandinavian style and spotless clean, laundry on site, Apple computer for emailing, New Yorker magazines and international books along window seats for chilling). The owner is the sweetest host along the whole camino, and truly cares about making your individual experience special. Five stars for this place!!!!!!
Next we have A Reboleria de Fonfria, a building of character. https://www.reboleirafonfria.com/
It gets an average of 4.6 J reckoned ;The rooms here are spacious and clean I chose a corner by the window Have privacy and your own space Each bed has a socket There is a small lockable cabinet in the shower room It's also clean food part There are more choices in the bar than elsewhere I had a late lunch here Local cheese drizzled with honey is very delicious and worth trying.
Lastly to the Casa Lucas. A respectable 4.5 stars/. https://hotelmania.net/hotel/fonfria/casa-de-lucas
Milagros said ‘We ate there, the service was top notch and the food was very good. We arrived after 3 in the afternoon, so there were few options on the menu, however we were very satisfied, the starter salad was very tasty and varied, the Galician soup did seem a little tasteless to us, the secret was adding pepper. The soft meat. The Santiago cake is very tasty, highly recommended.’
With all this, why would anyone ever want to leave the hamlet.
