In the land of the eventual Carnival

We are going down today unto the very depths of….. Sarria. We haven’t done a decent town for a while so it is time to get urban. We are heading towards where 13000 people call home. Being relatively flat must have been attraction but it was the pilgrim trade that really brought people in. The town has twenty Romanesque churches and monasteries to add extra tone to the place. In the 19th century the Lugo-Valdeorras road [1850] and railway [1880] helped with the export of livestock, cereals, chestnuts, potatoes, hams and sausages. Unlike many places, Sarria didn’t have a huge population collapse in the 197-s. A gentle dip from a high of 15000 to 12000 has been followed by a slight recovery.

We are in luck. Carnival had been postponed due to poor weather. It is today! https://sarriaturismo.com/visita/
We need a break. On the way into town is the Restaurante O Descanso. https://restauranteodescanso.com/
Within the last month the following has been said:
  • Homemade food at a good price menu 13 euros
  • The food is really not that good. 13 euros or even 10 euros for this kind of food is not worth it.
  • The food is very good and cheap and they are also very nice and attentive.
  • The hamburger makes me cry. It's one of the top 3 pilgrimage routes.

pasteleria panaderia morriña identifies as women-owned. It is on instagram and of course I have followed them. https://www.instagram.com/pasteleriapanaderiamorrina?igshid=ZDdkNTZiNTM%3D

Maria said ‘Super delicious food. We had dinner here and wanted to repeat for breakfast before starting the Camino de Santiago. It is attended by the owner, a very kind and attentive lady. I recommend it 100% and the food menu has a lot of variety.’

We are very soon out of town and I do feel I would have let you down if I hadn’t visited the Carblue carwash site before we left. The reviews are 2-3 years old and 5 stars. The most recent said ‘The guy is super friendly, he left my car spotless. I left super happy, I will definitely come back!!’
