IT HAS NOT BEEN POSSIBLE’

Northern Spain is generally ideal Fantasy Country.  Adventures involving wizards and the like rarely take place on the flat. You need lumps of geography. Flat plains and rolling countryside.  I think Cantabria meets the bill.  But first, finance.

We are outside the Bank of Santander’s Digital Service Centre.  We are also by the Bank’s archive.  https://www.archivohistoricosantander.es/  The building is impressive. The reviews are not. There are four of them and they average 3.  Morgnol wrote, four months ago, ‘Well, I have certainly tried to contact the Archive to obtain information but I have had to give up... IT HAS NOT BEEN POSSIBLE’  To be honest, this seems on brand for Spanish regional museums. Two years ago Miguel added ‘They don't pick up the phone or answer emails. The form on your website does not work. How do I contact you? It's impossible no matter how you look at it’

We are advancing into Solares. Solares is what happens when you have a route coming along the coast and then some rather impressive hills diverts you either to Santander or south of it to skip round and carry the way west.  Google translates its name as ‘Solar Panels.’  About 4000 people live here.   Before we enter Valdecilla we will turn away south and head along one of those roads where five floors of flats sit opposite wide fields, fit to accommodate many houses - but don’t.

We are passing the Asociación Cultural Amasol.  No one is saying why they like / dislike it.  People are a bit more forthcoming about the tavern, ‘Loba by Vanesa Camino’.  Two weeks ago Ysabel said ‘Very nice and cozy place. Very nice staff. Good food. Highly recommended’

No we are turning into the hill country.  Orcs beware!
