A joy to go through

We are mooching around that bit of land where old Santander phases out and outer lying settlements fade in.  We start at the docks, wander past the airport and then wander into Maliano with its older crowded houses and looming flats.

The first photo is looking back.  We then emerge out and on to the Bar Restaurante Raos.  It is closed today. If we turn up at 6.30am tomorrow we would be in luck.  A week ago Andres said ‘Homemade food restaurant with some dishes of Peruvian origin. You eat well for 12 euros. Very nice treatment. Small size of the dining room, to say the least.’

We can gaze on the Aeropuerto de Seve Ballesteros.  For those of you not aware, Seve was born in Pedrena.  It is just over the water from the airport. He won an awful lot of golf tournaments including 5 major championships.   Deirdre was most impressed a fortnight ago.  ‘A small airport and a joy to go thro.  Didn't have to wait for the Ryanair desk to open even though we were there early.  No delay going thro Security.  There is a nice cafe  there and a very small duty free.’    Jose only gave 3 stars.  ‘Small airport has a cafeteria and no VIP rooms, however it is clean and well organized’  To be honest, a lack of VIP rooms really deserves more stars.

As we leave the environs of the airport we pass Madres Carmelitas Descalzas.  We have never been to a bookbinder. Let us pause.  Let us be confused.  The reviews don’t match up what I expected.  A year ago A. Gonzalez said ‘Idyllic place for (ora e labora) peña that there is no vocational renewal to continue with an intense life and give it more benefits, good for the people of Maliaño who opted for them and did not close it’  Two years ago Esther said ‘Daily mass at 8:30 in the morning.’

We end the day near a holiday apartment.  El Escondite de Meli.  Everyone seems to love it.  Elena loved it ‘Very cozy and clean apartment, decorated with great taste. It is fully equipped. The owners were very nice, they even gave us some welcome gifts for both the adults and the girl. A pass.’

With that it is time to stop.
