One for the purists

 We are heading out again up the road and towards Ferrol. Restaurante el Pinar looks the sort of place the odd lorry might stop, and so will we. 470 people give it 4,4 Star rating and a month ago Eri said Very good „Fabada“ and the cheesecake was wonderful tasty!!! We will look a fabada in much more detail on future months.


The road rises up and we follow the ridge towards the next rias. We are entering Pontedeume,a stretched out sort of place which will plunge into the beating heart of the place. Currently the number of people here is in decline. The current 7600 is less than the 1991 peak of 8800. The demographics are mildly usually compared to where we have been. It was about 8600 in the 1880s and then crashed to 6000 in 1897. After that it was a steady climb for a century.



Let us end with the visit to a marine broker. Nautica Noroeste - Concesionario Oficial Yamaha. They close at 2pm today. They have an average of 3.7 stars. A year ago Rober Rober wrote ‘official Yamaha dealer and they don't even try to get the parts, they don't worry about trying, they don't even waste your time’ Antonio felt differently ‘Good service and very good attention. We cross the Rio Porma and into Villarente and Puente Villarente. Cows are important, rain is ubiquitous

  We are descending into the route to the coast. It is the point of all this wandering.  It is a bit British in terms of small lanes and odd turns,  We are on one of many of the camino routes for a bit of this.  We will pass one of the many tiny bus shelters on these lanes. I think I got a clue as to the weather when walking into a cafe in Gijon and noticed an umbrella stand.  Gijon gets 955mm of rain a year.  Santiago gets 1855mm.  London only gets 557mm. We will pass nearby Iglesia de San Juan de Castromaior.   I honour Pablo Pardo Lamela who gives it five stars for the reason ‘ Because I live here’.  The church was built in the 16th century on the site of an old fort. It has an 18th century baroque altarpiece.  We are now in Lugo province.  Apparently these devout Christians remember the Celtic god Lugh in this name.
