Into the Sub-rural

 After the first few hundreds of metres we are out of town and into that extended stretch of semi-subrural land which is Spain around cities. The casitas and cottages will slowly spread along a once more important road. We had better make the most of it while we are amid the houses. Carmela Peluqueria will open at 9am for our hair cutting needs. Anita said ‘Trusted hairdresser’ and to be honest, that should be enough but Lourdes added ‘Excellent!!, she knows her profession and it shows that she enjoys it... many years of work, a real pleasure to meet Carmela!!’

Marta was certainly taken with them They are a 10! I had never dared to leave my dog ​​with anyone. The first day I sent it to Coco Can, I was amazed. Leo is a fearful dog and does not usually trust anyone. Well, I was delighted with Coco and Pablo, and they also sent me videos so I could see that I was fine. They are lovely with puppies and Leo is much more sociable. They come to look for him at home and he is there in the mornings, he comes back tired and super happy. They changed my life! Cows are important, rain is ubiquitous

  We are descending into the route to the coast. It is the point of all this wandering.  It is a bit British in terms of small lanes and odd turns,  We are on one of many of the camino routes for a bit of this.  We will pass one of the many tiny bus shelters on these lanes. I think I got a clue as to the weather when walking into a cafe in Gijon and noticed an umbrella stand.  Gijon gets 955mm of rain a year.  Santiago gets 1855mm.  London only gets 557mm. We will pass nearby Iglesia de San Juan de Castromaior.   I honour Pablo Pardo Lamela who gives it five stars for the reason ‘ Because I live here’.  The church was built in the 16th century on the site of an old fort. It has an 18th century baroque altarpiece.  We are now in Lugo province.  Apparently these devout Christians remember the Celtic god Lugh in this name.
