In which a Roman Bridge and a Funeral Parlour are reviewed.

Image
We are rising again. We are rising 20 of your earth metres today. We will be 818m above the level sea. We are about at the highest point in the Cheviot Hills. We cross the Rio Porma and into Villarente and Puente Villarente. Both these twin settlements, lurking along the roadside, have generally grown in size since 2000.   https://www.turismocastillayleon.com/en/art-culture-heritage/great-routes/way-saint-james/puente-villarente First we must cross the Roman Bridge. Coyotuco is back with a five star review: A beautiful BRIDGE with a lot of history but it is not PEDESTRIAN. For pedestrians they have made a PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY right next to it. We are passing by the Artesanias Luyma so let us gaze at their ceramic goodness. Let us wonder  https://www.artesaniasluyma.com/categorias/pereruela/ While we are here and we are passing the Tanatorio Camino de Santiago let us visit this 39 reviewed funeral home. It gets an average of 4.9 stars.  https://www.antamontalvo.es/esq...

Roman Ruins and a decaf espresso

Image
A straight road, a clear sky and the prospect of the a bit of a Roman Road to the east of the road. The remains are remainant.   https://www.institutoleonesdecultura.es/antigua-ciudad-astur-romana-de-lancia/   Lancia was the largest city in this part for the Roman world. It covered 30 hectares Pliny the Elder mentioned it. The place was conquered by Publius Charisius in 25BC. He didn’t burn it but occupied the place. We end the day in Vil lamoros de Massilia. About 90 people live here. La Casina offers a few diverting meals.   https://bar-la-casina.negocio.site/   In November Eric Callman gave it five stars and said Perfect little cafe/bar on the Camino! They have decaf espresso, and a nice selection of teas. That is enough for today.

Mansilla de las Mulas

Image
I feel we are becoming a bit dependent on Coyotuco but, well, the gift that keeps on giving. We are passed a cemetery [no review] and then a pilgrim rest area. “A rest area for pilgrims where, for reasons of all kinds (meteorological, entomological, botanical, fauna, social, etc.), you will not last long. Especially if you take out food. From here to "Mansilla de las mulas" the walker has a "HORRIBILIS" kilometer left without a path and without shade, traveling along the edge of the road, without any type of ditch, or shoulder, or hardly any physical space, in which if If "COMPLICAO" sees it, he may as well jump into the "bardal" that is installed at his disposal next to the road. If it's any consolation, there is something for everything, this is the same fate that the residents of Mansilla face if they decide to walk to the town's cemetery. To begin, you have to get on the viaduct that can be seen in the background, in order to cross ...

The Reviewed Bridge

Image
Sometimes you know a day is going to be dull. We are walking through a shaded road, the road is boarded by a fence which turns the wide open meseta into a slightly ratty wayside. First we must go across the A-60. The English speaking wiki thinks it may be built. It has been to some extent, at the Valladolid and Leon ends. Welcome to the bridge over the A-60. Coyotuco has reviewed it. It is a 5 star bridge. They say: It is very well built, with good space for vehicles and also reserving good space for pedestrians. MANDATORY crossing point of the "CAMINO DE SANTIAGO". Tomorrow we get a town.

Reliegos and Reviews

We need to talk about Coyotuco. They are my new obsession,. We have come to the first stop, a Pilgrim Rest stop and they are there, giving it four stars. The place is very good, it has tables and benches and great shade. It is on the other side of the road and quite obscured by trees. You can hear the other pilgrims passing by and they don't see you. The fault it has is the lack of water. A fountain would be needed, which apparently once existed, but it must have dried up. From here to RELIEGOS there is just over a kilometer of pleasant walking. I wanted to know more. They have done 452 reviews and put up 388 photos. Frustratingly clicking on the link to Coyotuco doesn’t give us any other places they have been or details so they will have to be a person or mystery. I am addicted. The next thing by the road is a monument, of which they say I like "CRUISES". Unfortunately, it seems that this has been vandalized by some "iconoclast", because it is hard to believe...

In which we discover Coyotudo

Image
The ability of people to review things which, when all is said and done, probably don’t need it must have an obscure survival value. We have new things, well, for us, to look at today. Welcome to the ‘Area de Descanso para peregrino’ The first adds the extra ‘de Villamarco;. Villamarco os about a kilometre to the south and has a cafe. The first first review, of what is a nice stone shelter, open to the elements and with a stone table and room for six to sit is by Coyotuco. It has a good table and benches made of slate slabs and is covered with a good roof, made of good tile, which protects very well from the sun and rain. There is not much room for many people at the same time. From here to the town of "VILLAMARCO", there is a beautiful walk, adorned with old agricultural machinery, which is very interesting to explore. It seems incredible how things have changed in just a few years. Aramaty was mildly less taken Only 4 points because the virgin that was stolen is missin...
